The Foundational Combat Certification (FCC)


Those beginning the American Brokil system begin at the base of the diagram above. All of the underlying and unifying basics are included in the first step: The FOUNDATIONAL COMBAT CERTIFICATION (FCC).


The FOUNDATIONAL COMBAT CERTIFICATION (FCC) includes:

  • The System's Core Principles
  • Empty-Hand Striking
  • Grappling Fundamentals
  • Basic Weapon Techniques
  • Unifying Combative Drills


*Note: Training and Testing for the FOUNDATIONAL COMBAT CERTIFICATION (FCC) can be done online with a qualified instructor.



The Five Subsystems


Once the student has passed the FCC Exam, he/she can then move into The 5 Subsystems:


  • FRACTAL ESCRIMA
  • A hybrid stick-based approach, designed to be deceptive across various ranges of combative engagement.


  • TYCONY BOXING
  • An empty-hand striking subsystem focusing on counteroffensive measure to end the fight as quickly as possible.


  • CROSS-HATCH GRAPPLING
  • An integrative grappling method prioritizing real-world self-defense instead of sport grappling techniques.


  • THE FORGED-HANDS METHOD
  • This subsystem focuses on the use of time-honored traditional techniques, but with adaptation for the modern world.


  • THE VEIL PROTOCOL
  • A knife-based combative approach which focuses on weapon retention and guarding the use of the blade during engagement.




American Brokil Ranks


Each of the 5 Subsystems has five modules within them which can be completed in any order. Ranks are determined by how many modules are completed within the system as a whole, not solely based upon how many subsystems are completed.



The System Ranks and Requirements are as follows:


  • Basic Instructor
  • 5 Total Modules (At least one from each subsystem)
  • Equivalent in other system to a "Black Belt" Rank
  • Student then is able to wear a black belt in classes with traditional (Class "A") uniform

  • Full Instructor
  • 12 Total Modules
  • Black Belt with Red Border

  • Senior Instructor
  • 18 Total Modules
  • Red & Black Panel Belt

  • Master Instructor
  • All 25 Modules
  • Red Belt with Black Border
